Why did you want to become a pilot?

I grew up in Northern Ireland and the trans-Atlantic flight path flew over our family home. Watching passing B747s ultimately ignited a fuse in me and I dreamed that one day I would fly commercial jets. From that point onward, I geared all my study, attention and passion into becoming a pilot. For my 16th birthday my parents bought me a flying lesson in a Cessna C172 which I flew over my grandfather’s home and which still ranks as one of my most memorable flights. In university I became a member of the university air squadron (LUAS) and post-university I joined CTC Aviation.

Which Pilot Competencies are of most interest to you and why?

All nine competencies are very important aspects of being an effective pilot. My interest lies mostly in ‘Knowledge’ because I believe that we must aim to be continuously improving and developing ourselves. This extends into our personal lives as well as operating effectively in the flight deck.
